Description

The German Empire (1871-1918) minted an impressive series of gold coins that have historical and numismatic significance. These gold coins with the portraits of the German emperors are among the historical commercial gold coins. The emperors depicted are Wilhelm I, Frederick III and Wilhelm II, who reigned during this period.

The 20-mark gold coins of Wilhelm I and II were particularly widespread and were minted in large numbers. They are available in different years. The years are 1871-1888 and 1888-1913 respectively. Gold coins with the portrait of Frederick III are only available with the year 1888. In addition to the 10-mark and 20-mark pieces, 5-mark gold coins were also minted, although these are less common.

The value side of these coins shows the imperial eagle with the Hohenzollern shield, the inscription “Deutsches Reich”, the year of issue and the face value. These coins are not only known as a means of payment, but also as symbols of imperial power and cultural wealth.
